摘要：
One simple way of storing maps digitally is via a simple geometric representation in which each object on the map is represented by a set of lines and points with associated feature codes. The first step in building a geographic database for a Geographic Information System is to transform the geometric representation to a logical representation in which the real world objects have distinct identities. This paper presents a rule-based approach to the problem of computerized map reading, and describes how it has been applied to the extraction of the road network in a map and the subsequent naming of individual roads in the network. This is the first step in the construction of a deductive database for handling geographic data.
