EDUCATIONAL PRACTICES IN THE CONTEXT OF EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF SAO PAULO DURING THE FIRST REPUBLIC: A STUDY OF ALCIDES LUIS ALVES' "MISSION STATEMENT"

The article present results of the research conducted about the "mission statement" drafted by educator Alcides Luis Alves (1910) for the Workers Society of Santos (Sociedade Operiria de Santos), state of Sao Paulo, presenting a study about this institution, where the educator worked. It initially discussed the educator's proposals, recorded in the document, regarding education during the first decade of the 20th century, specifically as to the curriculum focused on professional training, besides the education of women, and as to the guidelines regarding school discipline. The results of the documental study demonstrated the wealth of information existing in the document for the understanding of the context of education in the state of Sao Paulo during the early decades of the 20th century, and the author's contribution for the understanding of the New School movement.
