摘要：
The course of rotifer research in western Europe including Denmark and the British Isles is traced from its commencement at the end of the seventeenth century to the middle of the twentieth. The development of each discipline involved - taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, phylogenetic relationships, histology, embryology and ecology - is examined in an historical context.
