Media, journalism and contemporaneity: ethical challenges in the context of ruptures

In the scope of relations between media and democracy, the matter of ethics in journalism takes centrality. Deontological principles of journalistic field - as representing the truth and defending the public interest - can be redirected from cultural changes and ruptures of postmodernity. Under this perspective, the text problematizes the intersections amongst contemporaneity, ethics and journalism. Based on reflections concerning the sociocultural shifts observed in the current context, the crisis of ethics foundations and the journalism produced within large media organizations; the text highlights the ethical challenges of the field, such as the necessity of investing in the complex understanding of otherness, in the attention to the multiplicity of voices that emerge in the public space and in the expansion of less orthodox formats.
