A number of new 4,5-diphenyl-3-(N-methyl/diethyl)-carbamoyl-substituted-1H-pyrroles (6) have been synthesized by the reaction of N-methyl/N-diethylacetoacetamide with benzoin and various alkyl, aryl and aralkylamines in the presence of formic acid. Structures of these compounds have been established on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data. Compounds 6d, 6e and 6f showed appreciable antifungal activity and compound 6k and 6e showed mild antimicrobial activity.
