TRANSVAGINAL WATER INSTILLATION DURING ENDOVAGINAL SONOGRAPHY - A NEW METHOD TO VISUALIZE THE CERVIX

Detailed examination of the cervix often is difficult using either the transabdominal or the endovaginal technique. Recently, the transperineal approach has been described in an attempt to overcome practical limitations most apparent in the third trimester of pregnancy. These methods have proven utility in the diagnosis of cervical incompetence, placenta previa, and cervical carcinoma. We have instilled warm sterile water in the vagina in a patient to provide a reliable window between the endovaginal transducer placed at the introitus and the cervix.
