A new telegram system, suitable to modern times, is being developed by renovating the existing telegram relay network through the overall installation of computer technology. This new system is designed to realize simple telegram acceptance operations, automatic telegram transfering and retrieving, and total telegram network efficiency. It consists of three subsystems: an exchange subsystem centered in Tokyo and Osaka, input subsystem locations distributed in and among about 40 main cities and output subsystem locations in thousands of agencies nationwide. The exchange subsystem has a distinctive addressing function that enables delivery destination network addressing with its ordinary administrative address information. A packet switched network is utilized for telegram integration into the Information Network System.
