The Other Democracy: Autonomy as an Alternative Policy in Latin America

This paper develops a theoretical discussion on two forms of democracy: liberal-representative and direct democracy. Their characteristics are discussed, particularly the representative premises. At the same time, the article takes up the idea of autonomous government raised by indigenous communities in Latin America as well as by other social groups, as an alternative to deepen the channel of social participation on the continent. This paper seeks to discuss a democratic practice based not only on the individual, but on collectivities.
