Public awareness and knowledge of oral cancer among adults resident in Great Britain was assessed through a national opinion poll.56% of the sample was aware of oral cancer compared with more than 85% being aware of lung, skin or cervical cancer.76% were aware of the association with smoking but only 19% linked alcohol use to mouth cancer.There is a clear need to improve the knowledge and to include oral cancer control in local strategies.
