Experimental and theoretical study of sulfathiazole as environmentally friendly inhibitor on aluminum corrosion in NaCl

摘要
In this study, the inhibition effect of sulfathiazole on aluminum corrosion in 0.1 M NaCl at the different temperatures is investigated using with potentiodynamic polarization curves and SEM analysis. Polarization curves indicate that sulfathiazole is a mixed-type inhibitor. Free energy of adsorption and adsorption equilibrium constant are calculated using the Langmuir isotherm. Temperature effect on aluminum corrosion is explained using the Arrhenius equation. Theoretical study of corrosion inhibition efficiency of neutral and protonated forms of sulfathiazole molecules in the gas and aqueous phase is carried out using Hartree Fock (HF) and density functional theory (DFT).
