Quality assurance is a major topic in the German health care system. Oncological rehabilitation includes many quality assurance aspects, such as definition of the structural quality of rehabilitation hospitals, therapeutic guidelines, peer reviews and quality circles. This article summarizes the different quality management indices and discusses the development of guidelines for the rehabilitation of breast cancer patients. © Springer Medizin Verlag 2006.
