Infrared Spectra of Alunite-Group Minerals Formed on Thermal Fields

IR spectra of alunite-group minerals formed on Pauzhetka–Kambalnyi–Koshelevskii (South Kamchatka) thermal fields were studied. Vibrational spectra were interpreted using correlation diagrams for the mineral structures. The IR-active ν3 bands shifted on going from [AlO6] to [FeO6] from 600, 630, and 670 cm–1 to 500, 530, and 630 cm–1; Raman-active ν1 bands, from 530 to 470 cm–1. Bands of [SO4] vibrations were active in both spectra and practically did not shift on going from MIAl3(SO4)2(OH)6 to MIFe3(SO4)2(OH)6.
