Historical fields of activities in hospitals have broadened and new additional functions have been added. The system of authorized delegation is becoming increasingly more complex. Individual staff members are not in a position to know all the legal and governmental recommendations in detail. Therefore authorized delegates have to inform and train the employees so that there is scope for development in their original duties. It is important that the delegates are not only nominated but that they also actively fulfill their function. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
