This paper begins with essential physical meaning of basic radar equation and its parameters. It then proposes a method that calculation models should be created separately for radar transmit channel and receive channel based on the practical composition of a radar system so that the radar equation can be correctly used. It also points out some problems which should be specially emphasized in usage of the equation. Finally it discusses the theoretical guidance which these physical meanings of different forms of the radar equation have on the engineering design of a radar.
