School psychology perspectives on consultation: Key contributions to the field

Researchers and practitioners in the field of school psychology have had a long-standing interest in the principles and possibilities of educational and psychological consultation. In this article, we provide an overview of school-based consultation with an emphasis on knowledge gleaned from the school psychology literature yet relevant to consultants in other disciplines and human services settings. A wide range of information is incorporated into a discussion of origins, theoretical orientations and models, research strategies, and training considerations. We conclude with a set of practical recommendations for educational and psychological consultants.
