Articles in this special section describe the development of 2 initiatives that are an outgrowth of the competency movement in professional psychology education: the Competency Benchmarks and the Competency Assessment Toolkit. This commentary places these initiatives in the context of other concurrent developments in professional psychology, addresses implications specific to the internship year, and identifies questions for future discussion and research.
