摘要
The study examined the influence Tutorial Computer-Aided Instruction (T-CAI) and Drill Computer-Aided Instruction (D-CAI) in collaboration with conventional teaching method would have on male and female secondary school students' geometry and trigonometry achievement. A sample of 254 students made up of 181 boys and 73 girls drawn from three federal unity secondary schools in North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria was investigated. The sample was divided into three groups two experimental and control groups. The three groups were taught geometry and trigonometry for six weeks using conventional instruction for the control group and supplement of Tutorial-CAI and D-CAI programmed packages for the experimental groups respectively. Pre-test and Post-test were administered to all the research subjects before and after the experiment respectively to determine differences in achievement if any, among the three groups and between the genders in the experimental group. After data analysis using means and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) statistics, the findings showed that: (i) Tutorial-CAI produced higher geometry and trigonometry achievement in students than the D-CAI and conventional instruction (ii) D-CAI produced higher geometry and trigonometry achievement in students than conventional instruction (iii) with Tutorial CAI, girls performed better than boys. It was recommended among others that Government and well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations should make provision for the introduction, implementation and funding of Tutorial CAI in mathematics in Nigerian schools to remedy the current students' dismal achievement level in the subject.
