Battery performances of electrophoretically fabricated LiMn2O4 positive electrodes for rechargeable lithium batteries

LiMn2O4 positive electrodes for rechargeable lithium batteries were fabricated by an electrophoretic deposition method from a suspension, which consists of LiMn2O4, Ketjenblack, and polytetrafluoroethylene particles dispersed in an acetone with addition of small amount of iodine. The obtained materials, with a short fabrication time, have smooth surface morphology and dense microstructure of the mixed particles of LiMn2O4 and Ketjenblack. The electrodes, obtained under the optimized condition, exhibit a stable discharge-charge cycling characteristics and the initial discharge capacity of 120 mA h g(-1). These results indicate that the electrophoretic deposition method is suitable for fabrication of positive electrodes for rechargeable lithium batteries.
