摘要
The instability of rivers during annual flooding in the Western Cape, South Africa regularly causes a lot of damage to agricultural land and public infrastructure. Over the last 20 year the author has developed a standard for the design of groynes to help stabilize these rivers. This paper describes factors contributing to the instability of the rivers, and the development of the design standards now used in the Western Cape.
