摘要
Trade between the European Union (EU) and Latin America (LA) has decreased in general, both as a percentage of LA's World exports, but especially, as a percentage of EU world imports. This means that there has been a de-linking of development. Conceptually, however, the EU is still mostly seen in LA as an alternative to unilateral dependence on the US, and as such, it remains an important region. Within the LA region, Mexico is one of the most important economies and one of the EU's most prominent trading partners. But this prominence seems to relate more to the size of the Mexican economy than to the share of its trade going to the EU, which is rather low by LA standards. Mexico is also an exception as far as the composition of the trade is concerned. The paper aims at an appraisal of the dynamics of Mexico -European Union trade development and its main elements against a background of global comparison with the dynamics of Latin American and EU trade in general.
