The operation of electromagnetic pumps used to control liquid metal flow are based on the Lorentz force. In this work, it is studied the design of an electromagnetic pump substituting the C-type magnet used in a prototype built previously by SmCo5 permanent magnets. The results of the computational simulation indicate that the new pump can develop manometric pressure comparable to the previous prototype and also has smaller dimensions. Magnetic field measurements agreed with the magnetic simulation in the region of interest.
