Specialists without Spirit and Sensualities without Heart'? On Control in ICT-driven Interaction

Control, for a long time, has been an essential part of organisational sociology. The concept has largely been analysed from different epistemological standpoints. These standpoints are informed by the functional and institutional character of control. However, it is the position of this paper that both the functional and institutional identity of control do not capture the nuances of the concept from the viewpoint of its manifestation in day-to-day organisational strategising. It is therefore about time a reconstruction of the concept is considered to include discretion as a means of broadening our conceptualisation on the subject.
