IPI May of 1997, a delegation of twelve technical communicators and technical communication teachers (all members of STC) from the United States and Canada visited the People's Republic of China. The delegation was sponsored by the Citizen Ambassador Program of People to People International, an organization founded in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower to promote international cooperation. In a series of professional meetings with teachers of language, science, and engineering at universities in Beijing, Guilin, and Suzkou, the delegation explored the current status of technical communication and its teaching in China.
