Individual and social factors of smoking cigarettes and alcohol consumption in selected groups of university students

The study investigates the relations of gender, personality factors (EPQR-A), value factors (RVS) and use of legal addictive substances by the best friend to the use of legal addictive substances (smoking tobacco cigarettes and alcohol consumption) in university students (n=832, thereof 477 women, mean age 20,5; SD=1,4). The relation was studied by the means of the binary logistics regression model. The relations of personality factors (extraversion, inclination toward lying), value factors (subjective well-being, being conventional), and use of legal addictive substances by the best friend to the use of legal addictive substances in university students were found. The higher level of extraversion, subjective wellbeing, use of legal addictive substances by the best friend, and the lower level of the inclination toward lying and being conventional in the relation to the use of legal addictive substances in university students were found. The results support the importance of the implementation of the strategy of life skills development in the prevention of the use of addictive substances in university students.
