Computer simulation of the sintering densification of prealloyed tool steel powders

摘要
A model for supersolidus liquid phase sintering is used to explain and optimize the sintering of a tool steel powder. The simulation is constructed from viscous flow sintering concepts applicable to semisolid particles. It predicts density and microstructure as a function of processing and material constants. The model is applied to a D7 alloy powder, giving predictions that agree with measured density and grain size. The model is used to isolate sintering cycles that reduce compact distortion. Experimentation via the model identifies alternative sintering cycles at lower temperatures and longer times, where component distortion is less of a concern.
