Direct active oxygen radical scavenging activity of indomethacin; Cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor and its inhibition of lipid peroxidation of mouse brain tissues

摘要
Indomethacin; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) inactivates cyclooxygenase (COX). The present study was performed to investigate the effect of indomethacin on active oxygen species and the inhibitory effect of brain lipid peroxidation. Measurement of free radical scavenging activities of indomethacin was performed by electron spin resonance (ESR). The inhibitory effect of indomethacin on lipid peroxidation of the mouse brain tissues was measured by thiobarbituric acid test. Indomethacin can scavenge free radicals directly and have lipid peroxidation inhibitory abilities.
