Appendix : Encyclopaedias of Learning, 1550-1650

This appendix provides a bibliographic map to help historians of early modern knowledge production orient themselves in the luxuriant landscape of Renaissance encyclopaedias. The list below includes only "encyclopaedias of knowledge", that is, clearly identified bodies of knowledge defined by 1) universal scope and 2) systematic order. Texts are chronologically arranged; the numbers within square brackets refer to the taxonomic criteria indicated in the article above, Encyclopaedias of Learning (1550-1650): A Research Proposal.
