摘要
The 17th century in Britain was full of political upheavals, but it was also a period of scientific and linguistic development. Sir Thomas Browne was a famous medic, thinker and man-of-letters whose name and works were very popular in his lifetime, his book "Vulgar Errors" was a European best-seller. In later periods, his popularity decreased. His works have not been translated into Russian till the 21st century and they have not been studied by the Russian scholars. The article analyzes Sir Thomas Browne's contribution into the English intellectual development of the 18th century, as well as inter-textual and contextual links of his works.
