Detection of exoplanets from space by lunar occultations

Thanks to a number of factors, observations of lunar occultations from space would offer a largely improved performance, as compared from that achieved from the ground. In particular, the lunar limb can be considered as a kind of coronograph, with a very high rejection of the light from the star being occulted. One might consider whether this could be sufficient for the direct detection of exoplanets. In this contribution, I investigate the feasibility of this proposition, in particular for what concerns angular resolution coupled to dynamic range. At this level, the study is semiqualitative only, given that much of what we know about exoplanets today comes from indirect assessments, and that the details of a dedicated space telescope for LO can only be speculative.
