摘要
Background: The primary objective of the pilot project was to examine the use and effectiveness of a virtual world, Second Life (R), for multiprofessional learning. Students from pharmacy, nursing, and medicine completed a modified TeamSTEPPS (R) training and used Second Life (R) to conduct multiprofessional simulations related to a mock error disclosure patient case. Methods: Presimulation and postsimulation surveys evaluated student perceptions and attitudes regarding teamwork, multiprofessional learning, and the use of Second Life (R). Twenty-one students participated. Results: Students had favorable attitudes that Second Life (R) provided an effective platform for multiprofessional learning. Students identified that Second Life (R) reduced stress levels related to simulation and multiprofessional activities, provided convenience, and offered a realistic approach. Technical issues with Second Life (R) were the most commonly reported issue among the students. Conclusions: The findings suggest that Second Life (R) may be an effective platform for multiprofessional learning; however, other platforms that minimize technical issues and offer enhanced interactions should be explored.
