摘要
For 200 years or more, white biologists, psychologists, and sociologists have been scrutinizing the behavior of black people. For most of this period, the academic inquiry aimed to establish the inferior intelligence of the Negro. Other-traits such as laziness, dishonesty, and a preoccupation with sex were also ascribed to the black race. In recent years, academic study has sometimes turned to a possible racial link to violence and criminal behavior Some people ask Why don't scholars direct their research to the behavior of whites? Why, for example, do millions of whites have a strong need to demean, ridicule, hate, terrorize, and discriminate against blacks? Particularly, if the issue of biology is ro enter the discussion, are we morally certain that the racial problem to be studied by American scholars resides in blacks rather than in whites?
