摘要
We report new results on X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) studies of CeNi4B. For comparison the PrNi4B and NdNi4B intermetallic compounds are investigated. Core-levels and valence bands were investigated. The valence band spectra of RNi4B are established mainly by R(4f) and Ni(3d) states. The XPS spectra of the 3d(5/2) and 3d(3/2) states reveal additional satellites, which, basing on the Gunnarsson-Schonhammer model, enable the estimation of the coupling between the f-orbitals and the conduction states, Delta approximate to 85 meV, 63 meV and 23 meV for CeNi4B, PrNi4B and NdNi4B, respectively. The value of the 3d spin-orbit splitting E-LS for R = Ce, Pr and Nd is equal to 18.4, 20.8 and 22.8 eV, respectively. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
