摘要
Two-dimensional experiments were conducted to study important processes that occur during in situ oxidation of pooled non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL). Results indicate that in situ oxidation of chlorinated compounds will lead to the production of various by-products that may significantly affect the over-all performance and behavior of the treatment. For potassium permanganate-NAPL systems, production of manganese dioxide and carbon dioxide are particularly important since they will change flow patterns. Carbon dioxide production may also mobilize NAPL and transport NAPL vapors. The rate of reaction affects the rate of carbon dioxide production. However, even at low reaction rates, production of carbon dioxide gas remains an issue. The behavior of the potassium permanganate flush is affected by NAPL zone permeability.
