摘要
Around the fringes of plantation: the labor and life conditions of slaves and freed men in small properties of Itaparica: 1840-1888 This article is intended to present an analysis on the freed men and slaves labor relations that prevailed during Brazil's last decades of slavery, in small rural properties in the island of Itaparica. Located at Todos os Santos bay, right before the city of Salvador, Itaparica played in the past an important role in the supply of food to the capital city and to the villages of the "Reconcavo" area. This study also focuses how the food produced in the plantations was transported to those Bahia urban centers.
