What's in a name? A historical look at native American-related nicknames and symbols at three US universities

摘要
The adoption and use of Native American-related nicknames and symbols by three U.S. universities are explored in this article. Historical case studies of the three institutions discuss how the nicknames were chosen, how they evolved, and why the decision either to keep or replace the nicknames can stir bitter conflict.
