摘要
Compaction bands are thin tabular structures that have developed normal to the maximum compressive stress. We review hydromechanical data on three porous sandstones that fail by this compactant failure mode. The coupling between compaction localization and fluid flow is sensitive to geometric attributes of compaction bands. The 3-dimensional geometric complexity of compaction bands in these sandstones is highlighted in our recent X-ray CT-data, which can provide quantitative constraints on the evolution of permeability with the development of discrete compaction bands.
