摘要
A cluster of four large earthquakes in October 1848 caused extensive damage to the fledgling settlement of Wellington, New Zealand. The specifics and extent of earthquake damage to brick, clay and wooden buildings were ascertained from two surveys and recommendations made regarding future preferential construction of buildings using wood.
