Over the last 30 years peritoneal dialysis has provided effective therapy for many patients living with chronic kidney disease. Developments are required for this therapy in the future to meet the needs of an increasingly elderly population with complex needs. The population, patient and professional issues relating to the role of industry in dialysis therapy are discussed.
