High temperature oxidation behaviour of FeAl intermetallics - Oxide scales formed in ambient atmosphere

摘要
The structures and formation mechanisms of the scales formed on Fe-Al during oxidation were investigated. The scale formed has a double-layered complex structure. The outside layer was convoluted α-alumina and the inner layer contains Al2O3+AlN. The formation of the oxide mixtures was analyzed based on the reaction thermodynamics in an ambient atmosphere. A model explained the formation mechanism of the double-layered scale structure.
