Substitution of spreading solvent by a less hazardous one for the fabrication of the Au(dmit)2 Langmuir-Blodgett films

The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film based on the ditetradecyldimethylammonium-Au(dmit)(2) [2C(14)N(+)Me(2)-Au(dmit)(2)] salt shows a high room-temperature conductivity of 40S/cm with a metallic temperature dependence. However, the solvent for spreading the material at the air/water interface is a 1 : 1 mixture of benzene and acetonitrile, which should be substituted by a less hazardous solvent considering the health effects. Here, we report on the substitution of the solvent by a less hazardous one-a 1 : 1 mixture of toluene and acetone; the 2C(14)N(+)Me(2)-Au(dmit)(2) LB film fabricated using the mixture also exhibits a high room-temperature conductivity together with a metallic temperature dependence.
