An ''audience effect'' for ecological terminology: use and misuse of jargon

We shall demonstrate from examination of vocabulary in several different ecological journals that the terms used by ecologists are in part dictated by the expected audience. The same terms mere used in different ways in these different journals. Such linguistic differences could cause serious ambiguity.
