Dictionary of Basic Hand Gesture Sign Language

For persons with hearing and speech impaired, sign language is the primary method for communicating with others. People with normal senses are seldom know about sign language, so the socialization of the use of sign language is not easy to implement. This paper discusses a method of developing a dictionary of hand gesture basic sign language. Dictionary of hand gesture basic sign language to be developed is limited to the recognition of a single letter from A to Z and single number from 1 to 9. Methods to be used in the hand gesture recognition is a color blob tracking. This method is used to recognize the color components of different markers put on different fingers. Testing of the hand gesture dictionary is done by giving input to the program with the image of the finger that forms a specific character. The test results show that the nearest neighbor method is able to recognize the character of certain numbers or letters, although the character number or letter contained ambiguities.
