摘要
Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are gaining wide spread popularity in several technological fields owing to its improved mechanical properties when compared with monolithic metals. The proposed research work includes preparation of five different compositions of the LM6 grade Aluminum - cenosphere composites using liquid metallurgy route following stir casting technique. Thus the research work was aimed at the experimental investigation of corrosion and wear properties as a result of varied percent reinforcement following ASTM G99 for sliding wear test and ASTM B117, ISO 9227 standards for salt spray corrosion test. The experiments revealed that the addition of cenosphere in to the LM6 grade Aluminum resulted in increase of the composite material hardness and reduction in density. Further increase in the wear resistance of the composite material and increase of corrosion property as the percent filler increased. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
