摘要
Optical generation and detection of acoustic pulses of subnanosecond to picosecond duration are discussed. This all-optical tool for generating and monitoring acoustic disturbances with frequency bands extending up to a few hundred GHz has been intensively developed over the last decade, and nowadays finds numerous applications in nondestructive noncontact material characterization and fundamental research.
