摘要
As competition introduced due to deregulation in power system, it becomes necessary to calculate Available Transfer Capability (ATC) in advance. ATC calculation ensures efficient utilization of existing transmission networks. Again, the compel of arising security threats due to gradual depletion in conventional energy sources has mandated the integration of renewable energy into the conventional grid, in present scenario. This integration of renewable opens up the opportunity for enhancing ATC. In this work, an optimal power flow (OPF) based methodology has been used to calculate ATC in the presence of photovoltaic power generation connected to transmission network. The simulation result shows that a significant release in transmission capacity is possible with the integration of solar based generation system, if placed optimally. Other benefits include saving in investment deferral required for transmission expansion, reduced line congestion, improved voltage stability etc.
