A review of open framework structures

Open framework structures are defined, and specific areas such as adsorption, template and structure-directing effects, and rational design in syntheses are discussed. Specific microporous materials such as silicates, aluminophosphates, metallosilicates, phosphates; other materials such as octahedral molecular sieves and octahedral layer materials of manganese oxide; and mesoporous materials such as M41S and MCM-41 are discussed in light of the void space, porosity, and openness of their framework structures. Synthesis and characterization of these materials are also covered.
