[en] Configuring the "black legend": Fernando de Ceballos' La falsa filosofia and anti-Lascasism in the 18th century

It has been discussed on many occasions whether the "black legend" is something real or a set of opinions to which an unjustified prominence is given. Different dates have also been given for its origin and it has been indicated that it is more guided by a political purpose than by an investigative desire. Beyond its existence, origin and valuation, what does not vary are the methodological and ideological assumptions with which the story of its history is constructed. This practice began at the beginning of the 20th century and continues today. This article shows that long before that date, its characteristic features were already present in La falsa filosofia, the most cited writing by the reactionary friar Fernando de Ceballos.
