Fault Identification of WZ12-1 Offshore Platform Using Intrinsic Time-scale Decomposition Algorithm

The paper exploits the intrinsic time-scale decomposition (ITD) method to explore a signal captured from the WZ12-1 offshore platform, effectively alleviating the shortcomings appearing in the present methods for processing non-stationary signals. First, the ITD method is described in detail. Next, the ITD method is employed to examine a signal from the WZ12-1 platform with excessive vibrations and successfully discovers the cause leading to the acute vibrations. And the ITD method is compared with the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method, which demonstrates the ITD method has some advantages over the EMD method in speed and efficiency of computation. The paper also provides a new approach for non-stationary signal analysis of mechanical systems.
