摘要
A large volume fraction of Vycor glass consists of nanopores. These pores shrink and gradually disappear during room-temperature bombardment with track-generating ions (70 MeV Ar. 260 MeV Kr). Treating particle tracks as thermo-elastic inclusions and assuming complete pressure relaxation in the hot fluid ion track a quantitative account for the experimental facts can be given. The universality of the mechanism suggests that this compaction process occurs in all nanoporous glasses. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
