Treatment of dural arteriovenous fistulas involving the superior sagittal sinus

Five patients with dural arteriovenous fistulas involving the superior sagittal sinus are described, Two patients with a superior sagittal sinus fistula draining into a cortical vein without dural sinus drainage underwent surgery. The remaining three patients, with multiple fistulas involving the transverse and superior sagittal sinuses: underwent transvenous embolizations. Transvenous embolization of the dilated venous compartment of the fistula, which was separate from the sinus lumen, was successful in two cases, but not in the other. The affected superior sagittal sinus in this case was isolated surgically it is clinically important to determine the drainage of the fistula and identify an embolizable venous compartment distinct from the sinus lumen in the treatment of dural arteriovenous fistulas involving the superior sagittal sinus.
